Moorcrofts steps out for the 2025 Reading Legal Walk

On Tuesday 16 September a 13-strong Moorcrofts team will lace up their trainers and join hundreds of lawyers, judges and advice sector supporters for the Reading Legal Walk 2025, a sponsored 10 km route that raises vital funds for local advice charities across Reading.

Who’s walking?

Our team will consist of colleagues from across the firm, all coming together to support this vital cause, including:

Ash Sangha, Heather Stewart, Polly Eastick, Danil Galushko, Sharan Uppal, Eileen Bath, Mercedes Misquitta, Timothy Astley, Sannah Tariq, Joe Hughes, Kirsty King, Anita Johnson, Nouara Mokrane.

Why the walk matters

Free legal help is often the only lifeline for people facing eviction, debt, benefits appeals or family breakdown. Yet demand has never been higher:

  • 7 million low-income households ended 2024 without at least one essential good they had enjoyed just six months earlier.
  • 5.4 million people experienced food insecurity in the previous 30 days.
  • 4.3 million households were already in arrears on at least one key bill or credit commitment.

Local advice agencies stretch every penny to meet that need and the Legal Walk helps keep their doors open.

Case study – Chelsey’s story

After her mother’s death, Chelsey faced significant challenges when her local council required her to move from her family home into a flat and had to switch from ESA to Universal Credit to receive housing support, increasing her financial strain and council tax liability. Struggling emotionally and financially, she turned to a local Citizens Advice, who eased the burden by assisting with paperwork and providing much-needed support.

Chelsey described the support as a relief, particularly given her anxiety, and emphasised the emotional toll of the experience.

Stories like Chelsey’s happen every day, and every pound raised on the Legal Walk helps them continue.
