Companies House update: Suppression of personal information
On Monday 27 January 2025, the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act introduced new measures to prevent the abuse of personal information held on the Companies House register.
Prior to this date, individuals had the ability to apply to suppress their residential address if it was shown as their service address. Now, Individuals are also able to request that their residential address be suppressed in historical documents that are available for inspection on the public register where their residential address has been used as the company’s registered office address, in accordance with section 1088 of the Companies Act 2006.
In light of this, Companies House has updated Forms SR01, SR02, OS SR01, OS SR02 and SR03 (LL SR02 for LLPs), to be used, as applicable, when applying to suppress the home address in historical publicly available documents at Companies House for the following individuals:
- Company officers (including directors and secretaries), and individuals with significant control (PSCs);
- Subscribers or members of a company, Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), Societas Europaea (SE), or qualifying Scottish partnership; and
- Officers or permanent representatives of an overseas company.
This is the first of a suite of new measures aimed at balancing the need for corporate transparency with the understanding that personal information should only be published when it’s necessary and proportionate to do so and recognises that publishing this personal information in the public domain can lead to the risk of fraud, identity theft or other harm.
Further measures are expected to be introduced in the Spring/Summer 2025 under which individuals will also be able to apply to suppress the following information from historical documents:
- day of birth for documents registered before 10 October 2015 (only the month and year of birth have been publicly displayed since 10 October 2015)
- signatures
- business occupation
