Moorcrofts pedals together to raise £2,310 for Kidney Research UK

Moorcrofts has raised £2,310 for Kidney Research UK after members of the team took on a 200km cycling challenge at the firm’s office on Thursday 8 October.

Inspired by the fact that kidneys filter around 200 litres of blood every day, colleagues took turns on exercise bikes throughout the day, working together to complete the 200km distance.

Kidney Research UK was chosen as Moorcrofts’ Charity of the Year after Lucia, the daughter of the firm’s Senior Legal Secretary, Mercedes Misquitta, was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a chronic kidney disease, last year. Lucia has since been receiving treatment and dialysis, and last week Mercedes donated a kidney to her daughter.

Julia Ferguson, Commercial Property Partner and Head of Moorcrofts’ Charity Committee, said:

“It was fantastic to see so many colleagues get involved in the challenge and work together to raise £2,310 for Kidney Research UK. The charity is a cause that is particularly close to our hearts, and we’re proud to support Mercedes and Lucia through this difficult time and wish them both well as they recover. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and to everyone who donated so generously.”

The money raised will support Kidney Research UK’s work to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease, helping to make a difference to people living with conditions such as IgA nephropathy.

Kidney Research UK will remain Moorcrofts’ Charity of the Year until the end of March 2027, with all fundraising activities during this period supporting the charity. Donations can be made at any time via Moorcrofts’ JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/page/moorcrofts-charity.
