Senior Corporate Solicitor - 5 Years+ PQE Vacancy

About Moorcrofts

Moorcrofts was founded in January 2000, and has grown to a 20+ lawyer practice.  We are looking to expand further, with a view to growing to 30+ lawyers over the next 3 to 5 years.

Moorcrofts is different to many other firms because:-

  • A boutique firm, we specialise in our chosen areas of:-
  • Corporate
  • Commercial Tech IT/IP
  • Employment
  • Commercial Property

With this amount of focus, we can punch well above our weight in our chosen areas.

  • A clean sheet of paper – Moorcrofts started out with no pre conditions or pre assumptions about how a law firm should run.  We have no high street legal practice history dragging us down, taking us into unprofitable and uninteresting areas of the law.
  • Information Technology – we use information technology very extensively, which we and our clients like.
  • Good clients – we have an excellent client base, ranging from Global 1,000s through to established mid size internationals, growing SMEs and start-ups.  We have a wide range of contacts with accountants, corporate financiers and other intermediaries ensuring that we receive the right type of work.  Again, with no history, we have no baggage of unprofitable and difficult clients to weigh us down.
  • Well organised – we have managed to organise ourselves pretty efficiently.  Our filing/accounting/document management systems are all well set up and run smoothly.   This makes for an easy working environment, where lawyers can spend their time focussed on client needs and growing the practice, rather than on too much administration.
  • Family friendly – we believe in the work/life balance, and that is part of the reason why Moorcrofts was set up in Marlow – to get away from long commuting and difficulty journeys.
  • Pay and conditions – we pride ourselves on paying good rates of pay for the Thames Valley area, and we have a bonus scheme that rewards those who put the effort in.

Who Would be Interested in Moorcrofts?

We believe that Moorcrofts will appeal to people who have the following characteristics:-

  • Entrepreneurial people who want to join a growing firm at an exciting part of its growth curve.
  • People who put quality high on their priority list.  We are not a high street law firm – we are a boutique corporate practice which demands the best standards.
  • People who want to live and work locally.  This would suit those who are sick of commuting into London or struggling every day on the underground.
  • People who want to have good quality work but also live in a good environment.  The Chiltern Hills and the Thames Valley region not only contain many dynamic companies, but also beautiful countryside and picturesque villages.
  • Someone who wants to be rewarded for what he or she does and who wants to be part of a team.

Senior Corporate Lawyer (5Yrs+ PQE)

You will hold a good (2:1) degree from a major University, and you will have trained with a good city or regional law firm, and have at least five years’ post-qualification experience in dealing with corporate work. This will include company sales, acquisitions, investments, demergers, capital reductions and shareholder and regulatory matters such as shareholder agreements, LLP agreements, tax, and other restructuring.

We also undertake share scheme work and secured lending, so experience of dealing with EMI schemes and/or other HMRC approved share schemes and or dealing with loan and security documentation would be preferable but is not essential.

You will have had involvement in deals from up to around £40M, and will have led smaller deals, from 0.5k to £5m, and feel comfortable negotiating with City lawyers. You need not have had listing experience.

You need not have a following, although contacts in corporate finance are always helpful.

You appreciate the necessity for project management on deals, and commit to high quality work. And you have a passion to ‘get the deal done’.

You are interested in business: both clients’ businesses and the business involved in running a law firm and are keen to reach partnership, not for the status, but because you want to be at the coal face of a dynamic business. Someone who is ready to move to the next stages of their career and make a commitment to the firm and strive for partnership. This comes with responsibilities to assist with mentoring junior lawyers and taking part in business development initiatives, which means in the main being in the office.  Most of our corporate team work in the office every day, but we are not totally averse to some working from home depending on individual circumstances and assuming good performance of that individual once they start and have bedded in. You would need to be prepared for at least 3, and probably 4 days a week in the office, and any commutes need to reflect that so living 2 or 3 hours away is not going to work.
