On Thursday 29 September 2022, Moorcrofts hosted a ‘Night at the Races’ at Marlow Rowing Club in aid of its charity partner, SpecialEffect.

The money raised from ticket sales and throughout the evening, which saw £1 bets being made on eight horses in each of the seven nail-biting on-screen races, totalled an amazing £2080. Sponsors of the winning horse won a bottle of prosecco, courtesy of Majestic Wines and the prize for those who bet on the winning horse in each race was a split of £100.

A number of races throughout the evening, which also included a fish and chip supper and a presentation and video by SpecialEffect on the marvellous and inspiring work they undertake, were sponsored by local businesses including: Quantuma, Seymour Taylor, Saffery Champness, Premier Financial Management and Charles Fussell & Co LLP.

Julia Ferguson, Head of Moorcrofts Charity Committee, said:

“After postponing the event due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we were delighted to finally welcome guests and sponsors for a fun and enjoyable evening to raise funds for our charity partner, SpecialEffect. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and took part and to Marlow Rowing Club for the use of the room for the evening, Printing.com for the programmes and to all the businesses who sponsored the races and horses.”

SpecialEffect is a charity that puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by offering bespoke technology to enable them to play video games.  By levelling the playing field, they bring families and friends together, having a profoundly positive impact on therapy, confidence and rehabilitation.
