Moorcrofts has had a SpecialEffect

Leading Corporate and Technology Law Firm, Moorcrofts is delighted to announce it has raised over £5,400 for SpecialEffect.

Based in Oxfordshire, SpecialEffect ‘puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games’. It’s a charity like few others; the team works with people of all ages to inspire and motivate them in a unique way, by providing a friendly and inclusive environment in which people can enjoy themselves doing what they love. By levelling the playing field, they bring families and friends together and have a profoundly positive impact on therapy, confidence and rehabilitation.

Over the course of the partnership, Moorcrofts staff carried out a number of fundraising driven projects to help raise these vital funds, including a charity quiz night , a 46-mile virtual walk from its office in Marlow to SpecialEffect’s office in Charlbury, Adam’s 100 Tonne Challenge, and a ‘Night at the Races’.

Julia Ferguson, Partner and Head of Moorcrofts Charity Committee, said:

“We appointed SpecialEffect as our charity partner in 2019 but with fundraising heavily restricted by the coronavirus pandemic over the last few years, we took the decision to extend the partnership until 2023. SpecialEffect is an amazing charity and it has been an absolute pleasure to support them over the last few years. A special mention must go to our charity committee, who organised the numerous events and those of our clients who have generously donated. We wish SpecialEffect all the best for the future .”

SpecialEffect COO, Tom Donegan, says:

“It’s been such an honour to be the charity partner for Moorcrofts these past four years! Ever since we first met in 2019, they have really engaged with our mission to help people with severe disabilities get more out of life through adaptive technology and been a consistent source of support through some difficult times. Back then, we could have never envisaged what was to come with the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact it would have on both our work and opportunities to fundraise. However, Julia and her team have always found a way to get involved – whether through activities like our karting challenge in the early days of the partnership or more recently organising their own events like the pub quizzes and race nights, which also provided us with the chance to update the staff, their families and friends, on the life-changing difference their donations have made during this time. A HUGE thank you to everyone at Moorcrofts on behalf of all of us at SpecialEffect and the people we support!”

Moving forward, Moorcrofts will support a range of local charities. Kicking off this new initiative, some brave team members flew the flag for Moorcrofts at the Marlow 5 run on Sunday 14 May, in aid of a local food bank – One Can Trust.
