Moorcrofts advises on Real Logic sale

Moorcrofts recently advised the vendor shareholder of Real Logic Limited, the leading provider of  low-latency trading technology, on the company’s sale to Adaptive Financial Consulting Limited.

Peter Woolley (corporate partner) and Barry Maytum (corporate consultant) led the transaction, with support from Tim Astley (commercial / IT partner) and Lindsey Abbott.

Real Logic co-founder Martin Thompson, former CTO of LMAX and a recognised global expert in low latency and high performance systems, will join Adaptive as head of platform.

Real Logic is the developer of Aeron and Aeron Cluster open source software, which is used by a number of leading financial firms on a global basis.

Adaptive is a specialist global electronic trading consultancy, and the acquisition of Real Logic should enable Adaptive to consolidate Aeron and  Adaptive’s development platform, Hydra Platform, thereby boosting Adaptive’s ability to deliver bespoke, low latency trading systems that can manage significant throughput, and accelerate the delivery and build of new trading solutions.

Martin Thompson, co-founder of Real Logic said:

“I am tremendously proud of what we achieved at Real Logic, and the number of financial firms which use our software on a daily basis. Trading technology is at an inflection point. As institutions and trading firms change their approach to technology, Adaptive offers the expertise and scale to service this significant growing demand, and so I think that it will be the right partner for Real Logic’s further growth and innovation. Thanks to the Moorcrofts team for all of their hard work, assistance and advice on the sale process. They were very pro-active and professional, and it was good to have them in my corner.”

Peter Woolley, Moorcrofts corporate partner, commented:

“We were delighted to act for Martin Thompson on the sale of Real Logic. This was an interesting transaction, which kept us busy for much of the festive period. I’m sure that Martin’s global reputation in low latency and high performance systems will enable Adaptive to further develop and enhance its offering. We wish both Martin and Adaptive the best of luck going forward.”

Other professional advisers on the transaction included FieldFisher LLP (acted for Adaptive Financial Consulting Limited).
