About Matt

Matt has over 20 years’ experience as an employment lawyer. He regularly advises employers and senior executives across a broad range of employment law matters including drafting employment contracts, employment policies and procedures, day-to-day HR/employment law support, advising on business reorganisations, transfer of undertakings (TUPE), termination arrangements and settlement agreements and employment tribunal claims including complex multi-day discrimination claims. Matt also provides regular training to clients on a broad range of employment law topics.

Matt’s specialties include advising clients across a broad range of sectors on protecting their business from the activities of ex-employees. This includes drafting restrictive covenants/ post termination restrictions, ensuring the employment policies support the restrictions, providing practical advice to deal with immediate aftermath of a departing employee including team moves, obtaining injunctions to prevent breach of restrictions, and securing damages for breach of restrictions.

Matt is a contributor to Emplaw Online, an online resource providing subscribers with expert ‘know-how’ on British Employment Law.

Career

Matt qualified as a solicitor in 1995 with Lees and Partners in Liverpool. Matt then relocated to Cheltenham firstly to BPE solicitors where he became partner and head of their employment team and then joining niche media practice Wiggin where he headed their employment work for their media, entertainment and film clients. Matt was then recruited by Morgan Cole (now Blake Morgan) as partner and head of their employment team in the Thames Valley working across both the Reading and Oxford offices. Matt then joined Harrison Clark Rickerbys where he was a partner leading their employment teams in Cheltenham and then in the Thames Valley. Matt has been at Moorcrofts since September 2016 and continues to use his experience to advise clients on a broad range of employment issues.
