About Jiri Svorc

Jiri joined Moorcrofts in 2020 and regularly participates in advising businesses as well as public sector organisations on technology, intellectual property and complex commercial law matters, as well as on personal data protection. He has a keen interest in open source licensing (he has written his postgraduate dissertation on this topic) and has been working with Andrew Katz on open source compliance and advising clients in relation to OpenChain (ISO/IEC 5230) certification.

Jiri has postgraduate qualification in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London and completed his LPC at BPP University. Prior to joining Moorcrofts, Jiri worked with law firms in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Luxembourg as well as with the European Commission. In various roles, he participated in cross-border technology transfers and advised leading global technology companies as well as developers of disruptive technologies.

After completing LLM at Queen Mary University of London, Jiri joined IP and Commercial Law team of the largest law firm in the Czech Republic. He participated in advising clients on technology and media law, as well as on trademark, copyright, patent and design protection and the enforcement of these rights.

In 2016, Jiri was selected to participate in the European Commission’s traineeship programme in Brussels. As Legal and Policy Assistant of Internet of Things Unit of Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology he supported the drafting of policy documents on Internet of Things and completed research on the status of product liability in the EU and the framework’s applicability to IoT.

Jiri continued contributing to the Commission’s research work after joining specialist technology law firm in Amsterdam the following year. As part of the firm’s core team he also participated in advising organisations on personal data protection, privacy and cyber security, especially during the period of the GDPR coming into effect.

After completing his LPC in 2019, Jiri briefly assisted boutique, business law firm in Luxembourg in an extensive document review project in a share purchase transaction as well as drafting and finalising of transaction documents. Whilst with the firm, he also contributed to the drafting of asset transfer agreement in a separate technology transfer transaction.

Having joined Moorcrofts in 2020 as Technology & IP Paralegal, Jiri took up his Trainee Solicitor position in 2021, and is working towards his qualification as a solicitor.
